Our friend David Moreno, a Yaqui artist, presented us the idea to host the second showcase of contemporary art by indigenous artists. As a new galeria in the City of South Tucson, hosting this show was an important opportunity to share with the community a group of artists that reflected the folks who’ve grown up and currently live in South Tucson.
David curated the artists and the artwork, and everything looked amazing! The artists who participated were: Luis Rodriguez, Jeremy Singer, Damian Jim, Nocona Burgess, Chrissy Tiger, Rezmo, Raquel Aviles, Ubaldo Flores, Phillip Molina, Cougar Vigil, JC Nighthawke, Brandon Varela, David Moreno and Jeff Slim.
For the opening celebration on May 11th we invited Neoglyphix, an all indigenous aerosol artist crew to paint canvases live and local yaqui tribal member Gloria Alvarez to bring her amazing cooking skills to showcase her famous frybread and tacos! Local youth band from Pascua Yaqui, The Dry River band also performed during the celebration. It was a beautiful day of community, art, food and music and we are so thankful to everyone who participated and visited.
The shows last day is Saturday June 22, 2019.
It was a honor to be a part of this show! Great art, great people! Much love ✌
