2015 Tucson Festival of Books

The Pima County Public Library’s Nuestra Raices librarians asked me to moderate their youth author panel at this March 15, 2015 Tucson Festival of Books.

I was excited to hear that the panel this year was called “The Distored Mirror” with female, Latina authors: Claudia Guadalupe Martinez and Isabel Quintero.

My favorite part about moderating.. is reading as many books written by the authors on the panel and then getting in touch with them to talk one on one. It gives me a better sense of their work, personality and makes it easier for me to make it feel like we’re just talking with friends rather than under a large tent in front of several folks!

This year, both Claudia & Isabel were very inspiring authors to meet and get to know. They are both young chicanas breaking new frontiers and writing books for the youth. While reading their books.. I kept thinking to myself… where were these books when I was growing up!? I’m not alone! It was like reading a biography of elements in mine or family/friends lives.

I hope to continue to be able to moderate for the Nuestra Raices tent for years to come…these authors inspire me… the inspire my art. And best of all.. we get to have some fun conversations under the big tent at the Festival of Books!
